The RISS Money Counter Network (MCN) database was developed by WSIN. The database stores currency serial numbers for comparison to currency submitted by officers in previous cases. Authorized users can query the MCN to determine whether a note has been previously stored. Currency information, such as the serial number, is captured and stored by money counter scanning devices, then uploaded into the MCN by the case officer. The MCN is a powerful tool to combat case-related crimes, such as money laundering and counterfeiting, and enables officers to “follow the money,” enhances investigative efforts, and assists with connecting cases.
