Federation Partners
RISS began building an infrastructure built around industry-standard secure credential exchange using the Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) framework developed by the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS). Please see SAML.XML.org for more information.
Because RISS was an early adopter of this important information-sharing technology, RISS was invited to become a charter member of the two major law enforcement and justice related secure information sharing federations:
- The National Information Exchange Federation (NIEF), based upon standards created as part of the Global Federated Identity and Privilege Management (GFIPM) effort.
- The Law Enforcement Information Sharing Program (LEISP) Trusted Broker Federated Identity Management (FIDM) pilot. The success of this pilot project led to the establishment of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Trusteed Broker Federation, whose members include: the FBI Law Enforcement Online (LEO), FBI Joint Automated Booking System (JABS), FBI N-DEx, Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN), Intelink-U, Chicago Police Department, and RISS.
