RISS Public Access Privacy Policy

The Regional Information Sharing Systems® (RISS) is committed to protecting your privacy and securing the personal information that you make available to us when you access our websites or communicate with us electronically. This Privacy Policy describes what information is made available to RISS when you visit RISS Public Websites and describes how that information is used.

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit our publicly-available sites to read or download information, we collect and store the following information about your visit:
  • The name of the Internet domain (e.g., “xcompany.com” or “yourorg.gov”) and the IP address (a number that is automatically assigned to your computer when you are using the Internet) from which you access our sites
  • The type of browser and operating system used to access our sites
  • The date and time you access our sites
  • The Internet address of the Web site from which you linked directly to our sites
  • The pages you visit and the information you request while on our sites
This information is primarily collected for statistical analysis and technical improvements to the site. The Web sites that we support use software programs to summarize usage statistics, which may be used for such purposes as assessing what information is of most and least interest, determining technical design specifications, and identifying system performance or problem areas.

Personal Information That You Voluntarily Provide

If you choose to provide us with personal information, such as by applying for a secure RISSNET user account through the RISS online registration website, or by sending a message to an e-mail address on our websites, we will use that information to process your registration request, respond to your message, or to fulfill the stated purpose of any other electronic communication. RISS does not collect or use information for commercial marketing.
We may share information you give us with contractors acting on our behalf or with a government agency if your inquiry relates to that agency. In other limited circumstances, RISS may be required by law to disclose information you submit.
RISS will safeguard all information submitted electronically and keep data no longer than is necessary based on the requirements of the submission.
Be aware that email is not necessarily secure against interception. If your communication is sensitive or includes personal information, you may prefer to send it by other means instead.

Links to External Sites

RISS’ websites may contain links to websites created and maintained by other public and/or private organizations. We provide these links as a service to visitors to our sites. When you follow a link to an external site, you are leaving the RISS environment and are subject to the privacy and security policies of the external site.

RISSNET Mobile Application Privacy Policy

Introduction

The Regional Information Sharing Systems (RISS) was established more than 50 years ago and supports law enforcement and public safety efforts in a variety of ways, including information sharing, investigative research assistance, analytical support, technical equipment loans, confidential funds, training, publications development and dissemination, field services, officer safety event deconfliction, law enforcement wellness, and technical assistance. RISS consists of six centers that support the needs of their regions while working together on nationwide initiatives and the RISS Technology Support Center, which serves as the RISS nationwide technology resource. Purpose

The RISS Program, its leadership, and its staff are committed to protecting individual privacy, civil rights, civil liberties, and protected interests as outlined in the RISS Privacy Policy as well as this RISSNET Mobile Application Privacy Policy.  This policy describes the types of information we may collect from you or that you may provide when you download the RISSNET Mobile Application (App) and our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information.

No App Data Collection

The RISSNET Mobile Application itself does not collect, retain, or process any personal data or information from users. Our App is designed to operate without the need for retention of any personal data when downloading the App. However, as RISSNET is a restricted access system, data submitted when applying for and/or existing authorized users who have a RISSNET account, personally identifiable information (PII) is retained by RISS for those individuals as per existing agreements and as outlined in the current RISSNET Privacy Policy, RISSNET Vetting Policy, RISSNET Terms of Use, RISSNET Security Policy, and RISSNET Public Access Privacy Policy.

Usage Data

The RISSNET Mobile App may collect non-PII related to your usage of the App, such as device type, operating system, crash data, app installation data, session duration, and other similar technical data. This information is used solely to improve the functionality and performance of the App and is not linked to any specific user. However, once logging onto/logged into RISSNET all applicable usage requirements apply as outlined in the policies noted above.

No Third-Party Access

Since we do not collect or retain any user data when downloading the app, we do not share any personal information with third parties relative app downloads. Our App does not integrate with third-party services that could collect your data.

Data Security

As we do not collect or retain any user data upon app download, there is no personal data at risk. The security of your information is inherently guaranteed by the absence of any data collection when downloading the app.  However, once logging onto/logged into RISSNET all applicable RISSNET security requirements apply as outlined in the policies noted above.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our RISSNET Mobile Application Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted within the App, and we encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the App following the posting of changes constitutes your acceptance of those changes.
